Karen Shea Tucker

Breast Cancer Network of Strength is sad to announce the loss of one of its past board members, Karen Shea Tucker. Karen was born in Chicago in 1943 and passed away on September 6, 2009, after a 19 year battle with breast cancer.

Karen was diagnosed with the disease when she was in her 40s. She heard about Network of Strength (formerly known as Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization) from friends and spent many years working with us, participating in fundraisers and fashion shows.

She inspired others by not being afraid to talk about breast cancer. According to her husband, Hobart Tucker, she told her story to thousands of people and loved being able to connect with and help others.

Karen served on Network of Strength’s Board of Directors from 1994 – 1997 when she resigned and moved to Arizona. During her tenure she chaired the development committee and served on both the finance and management committees.
