Support Network of Strength with a Bequest or Planned Gift

Network of Strength

Another way to show your support for Network of Strength is through a bequest in your will or a beneficiary designation on a life insurance or retirement account policy. A bequest is a wonderful way to express your values and further an important cause, leaving a legacy for those who follow you. Some other benefits of making a bequest are deferring your gift until after your lifetime, exemption from federal estate taxes and the ability to change the gift at any time during your lifetime.

Please consider all your options carefully to determine what is best for you and your family. As with any important financial decision, Network of Strength strongly encourages you to consult with your legal or financial advisor when considering a bequest.

The three most common types of bequests to Network of Strength are: 1) percentage; 2) residual; and 3) specific. The chart below contains a description of each type of bequest and sample language that can be used in your will to designate a gift to Network of Strength.

Percentage Bequest

Bequest of a certain percentage of a donor’s estate or of another asset.

For example, if a donor states in her will that upon her death, her house should be sold and the net proceeds from the sale should be split equally among her three children and Breast Cancer Network of Strength.

“I give, bequeath and devise (state percentage amount) to Breast Cancer Network of Strength (Tax ID #36-3049954), a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable institution, located in Chicago, IL, or its successor organization, also a qualified charitable organization, to be used for its general purposes.”

Residual Bequest

Bequest of all or a portion of the remainder or residue of the estate after specific and other bequests have been distributed.

An example of this type is providing that any remaining assets after all other bequests have been satisfied should be given to Breast Cancer Network of Strength.

“I give, bequeath and devise (all, or state percentage or shares) of the rest, residue and remainder of property, both real and personal, wherever situated, which I may own or be entitled to at my death, to Breast Cancer Network of Strength (Tax ID #36-3049954), a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable institution, located in Chicago, IL, or its successor organization, also a qualified charitable organization, to be used for its general purposes.”

Specific Bequest

Bequest of a specific item or dollar amount.

An example of a specific bequest is providing that $25,000 from a donor’s estate be given to Breast Cancer Network of Strength.

“I give, bequeath and devise (state amount or item) to Breast Cancer Network of Strength (Tax ID #36-3049954), a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable institution, located in Chicago, IL, or its successor organization, also a qualified charitable organization, to be used for its general purposes.
