Organization Talking Points
The full name of the organization is Breast Cancer Network of Strength™
We changed our name from Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization® in 2008 to better reflect the organization’s evolution of services and public attitudes about breast cancer.
The mission of Breast Cancer Network of Strength is to ensure, through information, empowerment and peer support, that no one faces breast cancer alone.
In the fewest words, Network of Strength provides immediate emotional relief, strength and support to anyone affected by breast cancer.
We're special among breast cancer organizations because we provide immediate emotional relief through YourShoes™, our 24/7 Breast Cancer Support Center staffed by breast cancer survivors.
YourShoes™ is Breast Cancer Network of Strength’s peer support program that includes a 24/7 breast cancer support center that provides immediate emotional relief through a toll-free hotline, e-mail, match programs and support groups.
The organization was started by two women around a kitchen table in the suburbs of Chicago 30 years ago.
WE DON’T RAISE MONEY FOR RESEARCH. We’re here today for those who can’t wait for tomorrow’s cure.
While Breast Cancer Network of Strength doesn’t raise money for breast cancer research, it is one of the founders of the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC), which works to increase breast cancer research funding. Additionally, representatives from Breast Cancer Network of Strength serve on the Department of Defense Peer-Reviewed Breast Cancer Research Program, which awards grants for breast cancer research.
We have 15 affiliates and satellite offices across the country, in addition to our headquarters in Chicago.
Breast Cancer Network of Strength is a 501 (c)(3) organization and meets all 41 of the National Health Council’s Standards of Excellence.
