One day of cycling, a lifetime of memories. This October, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, you can make a difference. Join us for the 2010 Ride to Empower, which will take place from October 21 through October 24 in Springdale, Utah. The Ride to Empower is not only a test of your endurance but is also a way to pay tribute to loved ones and support those touched by breast cancer. The Ride is a destination bike ride, with fully-supported route lengths ranging from 100-miles and lower. Riders have been and will continue to raise funds to provide breast cancer support and help Network of Strength to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone.
This year the Mid-Atlantic Affiliate is supporting two new riders, Kathleen Fleming and Tanya Becraft, along with Elizabeth Coppersmith, a veteran Ride participant, in their bicycling journey in Springdale.

More than 2500 Metro DC residents were a part of an inspiring Mother’s Day tradition on the National Mall at Breast Cancer Network of Strength’s Walk to Empower.
They were among tens of thousands who participated in the Walk to Empower in 13 cities across the country that honored survivors, families, and anyone affected by breast cancer. View 2010 DC Walk to Empower photos.
“Sunday was spectacular. It was terrific for all of us at Safeway to spend the day with family and friends to really make a difference,” said Ed Mensh, 2010 Walk to Empower Corporate Chair.
“We are so grateful to everyone who showed up to honor loved ones and raise funds to support Network of Strength’s mission to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone,” said Tracy Bunch, Executive Director, Breast Cancer Network of Strength Mid-Atlantic.
The Walk to Empower benefits Breast Cancer Network of Strength®. Funds are not raised for research. Instead, the organization provides immediate emotional relief to anyone affected by the disease through its YourShoes® 24/7 Breast Cancer Support Center.
“Breast cancer doesn’t happen just to a patient. It happens to a patient’s family, loved ones, co-workers and friends. Those affected by breast cancer really can depend on Network of Strength to provide breast cancer support today,” said Breast Cancer Network of Strength President and CEO Margaret C. Kirk.
In the United States, one out of eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. It is estimated that more than 184,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone, and nearly 41,000 will die from this disease. There are more than 2.3 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. today.
“It’s important that people who want to be proactive in the face of breast cancer—not just patients but men, children, and family and friends—have somewhere to go to express their passions and feelings on Mother’s Day,” added Kirk.
The event’s National Presenting Sponsor was McDonald’s. National Official Sponsors were Bumble Bee, Eisai Inc., Grant Thornton, Harley-Davidson, United Airlines and Walgreens.
