Volunteer Spotlight

We Love Lucy...

No, not that Lucy…but our very own LucyLucy Cafiero of San Diego.  We shine the spotlight on her for reasons so many as to fill pages and pages and pages.

A seven-year breast cancer survivor, diagnosed with stage IIIB invasive lobular carcinoma,  Lucy has been a volunteer with Network of Strength for the past three years and has yet to say “no” to any task she’s been asked to undertake on behalf of our mission.

To say she is special would be not only an understatement but would not do justice to the extent of Lucy’s volunteer activities.  We were first introduced to her in 2008, as part of our group of trainees for the Just For Teens School Program in San Diego.  Since then, she has evolved not only from being a lead presenter of this Program, but is now serving as the lead Volunteer mentoring other trained presenters, scheduling their presentations as well as scheduling the schools for the presentations.  A big job but Lucy does it with grace, aplomb, positive attitude and passion – above all the passion which underlies all that Lucy undertakes on our behalf.

For all she does, it’s no wonder Lucy was our natural selection to be our Affiliate Ambassador of Strength during last October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  She is a great representative of our organization and our Affiliate…just ask our friends and supporters in San Diego.  They know Lucy and not only that…they LOVE Lucy.

This Mother’s Day, we again saw Lucy at the Walk, in her role as a member of the Family Team Committee as well as Team Captain of her own Team.  If you looked hard enough, you may even have seen her with her grandbaby in her arms….Oh, did we mention she is a new, first-time grandmom?  That she is and if her grandson could talk, we’re sure he’ll say that she is a mighty special one at that!
